A local company that commenced trading less than 8 months ago has scooped a major award at the recent "Start-up Awards" in the Burlington Hotel. Keogh's Crisps received a significant investment from Fingal County Enterprise Board when they started a new gourmet crisp manufacturing business in October 2011. Since then, they have gone from strength to strength. You may recall the Keogh brothers appearing on the Saturday Night Show last March with Brendan O'Connor, when they launched their unique "Shamrock Flavoured" crisp range, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!
The Keogh family are well known and highly regarded Fingallians and the Keogh's brand of home-grown potatoes has been a staple part of most Irish homes for generations. Spotting a gap in the market for Irish home-grown luxury gourmet crisps, they created a plan to branch into the production of hand-cooked snack foods. Their crisps can now be seen in many retail outlets throughout Ireland and the company has major plans to export.
Speaking on the success of Keogh's so far, the CEO of Fingal Enterprise Board, Oisin Geoghegan, said: "This is a superb start-up and just goes to show that with an excellent product, a strong business plan, clear direction and the right approach, there are always opportunities out there for start-up businesses to exploit market niches. Keogh's have shown that even in the middle of a recession, a small business can successfully create a new product range with enormous market potential. Innovative businesses like this one will help to provide much-needed jobs in our local economy".
