Awards Ceremony 2008
Eleven primary schools from all over Fingal are taking part in the Pilot Programme called ‘Learning Enterprise’, which is co-ordinated by the Fingal County Enterprise Board and funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
As part of the pilot programme, the young pupils have been learning about local entrepreneurs and the steps involved in setting up a successful business. The young students have also set up their own school enterprise with their classmates, with the help and support of their teacher and the Fingal County Enterprise Board.
In addition, class visits to local companies are being arranged, giving the pupils an opportunity to see what happens ‘behind the scenes’ of a successful local business.
Oisin Geoghegan, Chief Executive Officer with the Fingal County Enterprise Board said: “International research has shown that fostering an appreciation for and understanding of enterprise at a young age today, will reap rewards in the future. The intended effect is to stimulate the next generation of entrepreneurs.”
The Fingal County Enterprise Board has been running a successful enterprise education programme for second-level schools since 2000, with close to 800 students taking part in the 2008/2009 programme for the region’s secondary schools.
The competition is co-ordinated by the Fingal County Enterprise Board and supported by MACE, Fingal County Council and SMART Technologies.
